HND Interactive Media is a course at Wakefield College; it is a multimedia course which involves creating websites, designing CD covers, flash games, ect... My aim over these next two years is to get as much knowledge as I can and pass this course.

You've distorted the picture.
Holding the shift key when in Free Transform mode will stop the picture from distorting when changing the size.
I think that the blue text is too dark. I believe it is an appropriate colour for the ‘jazz’ theme, but it needs to be lighter. – Maybe try matching the colour to the same blue as her eyes?
Also, think about the ordering of information – what would you want to know first? The fact that ‘something’ is live at Wakefield Jazz, or the actual artist who will be there?
I think the font you have chosen for the venue is not suitable at this size. I’d recommend that you use this type of display font for the artist, but at a larger size. Also a small margin around of the edge (2 or 3 mm) would be enough for this size of banner.
Having read the posts above, I feel you require some inspiration. In my opinion I would make the background blue and the whole image duotone apart from the lips as you may want to a relationship with red to add life to the text.
A design that combines some of these styles should inspire you.
Very popular text style for Jazz/Blues music
